Wisconsin Fire Inspectors Association, Fire Prevention Professionals Conferece Scholarship Application and Directions
The Wisconsin Fire Inspectors Association's Executive Board approved four scholarships for this year's conference and all conferences after this one. There will be four scholarships total, two of which will be what we call full scholarships: 5 nights lodging and a full 5 day conference fee; the other two scholarships will be for a full 5 day conference fee only.
We encourage everyone to apply, the deadline for this years is a short time frame due to getting it out late but we still want to award the scholarships for this years conference, next years will be out much earlier. Please fill out the scholarship application and follow all of the directions to compete.
As of today we do not have enough applications to fill the approved awards, so all of you have a really good shot at it. If you are fortunate enough to already have support from your employer to go to the conference please take it upon yourself to sponsor someone and hand the application to an up and coming, enthusiastic fire inspector or public educator in a department near you. Part of the scholarship includes an annual membership in the association and all the benefits that membership provides.
The conference this year is shaping up to be even better than last year with speakers and presenters from all over the US. I have attached a copy of this years Conference Brochure for your convenience also. If you have further questions please feel free to give me a call or visit our website at www.wsfia.org .
Stay Safe and I look forward to seeing all of you at this year's conference.

National Fire Prevention Week (October 5-11, 2008)
During National Fire Prevention Week, October 5 - 11, 2008 attention is focused on promoting fire safety and prevention, however we should practice fire safety all year long. Many potential fire hazards go undetected because people simply do not take steps to fireproof their home.
Many bedroom fires are caused by misuse or poor maintenance of electrical devices, careless use of candles, smoking in bed, and children playing with matches and lighters. Most potential hazards can be addressed with a little common sense. For example, be sure to keep flammable items like bedding, clothes and curtains at least three feet away from portable heaters or lit candles, and never smoke in bed. Also, items like appliances or electric blankets should not be operated if they have frayed power cords, and electrical outlets should never be overloaded.
