Standpipe Connections / Racine WI
To All Fire
Departments
The City of Racine, WI has experienced a rash of thefts
recently where thieves have removed the brass/bronze 2-1/2 inch standpipe valves
in many of our parking ramps within the City. The thefts have
occurred in both city owned and private ramps where we utilize dry standpipes to
supply water throughout the parking ramps. It appears that more than
60% of the valves have been removed and taken to scrap dealers for cash.
We recently discovered stolen valves in a Zion, Illinois scrap yard
where the scrap dealer offered to sell the valves back to the
city.
We would strongly recommend all fire departments inspect
their parking ramps and other facilities where the brass/bronze valves are
located. It might be quite possible when you need the standpipe
there will be no valve or connection available elsewhere within the
structure.
